Heritage Crime

English Heritage have highlighted issues throughout the country with crime that directly effects our heritage i.e. historic sites, listed buildings etc. The crimes commonly include  graffiti, stone theft, metal theft and more general vandalism. Cheshire police have piloted "Heritage Watch" which runs on very similar lines to Neighbourhood Watch but  is specific to historical sites within the community.

West Yorkshire Police  are seeking input from community groups related to history and heritage as to whether a similar organisation would be feasible within this area. If you or anyone you know is connected to a group within Kirklees with interest in protecting our heritage please contact me. We are hoping to have an initial meeting early in the new year with interested group representatives.

This is at a very early stage and we are starting with Kirklees only at this time. We are seeking opinions and ideas rather than volunteers although this may change!
