A Town Centre Chaplaincy for Dewsbury
In many towns and cities across the country churches are working together to provide chaplaincy for their town and city centres.
For over a year several people from the Dewsbury Town centre Churches have been working together, under the umbrella of Churches Together in Dewsbury to explore the possibility of offering chaplaincy to Dewsbury Town Centre.
The aim of Town Centre Chaplaincy is to offer pastoral care “a listening ear” to those who work in and visit Dewsbury Town Centre. To be there to offer support in times of personal crisis; to share the joys and challenges of life with people of all backgrounds and of all faiths and none and to show that the Church cares about the people of Dewsbury.
This will start small, but it is hoped, eventually, that chaplains will be working within the retail, finance and transport services, in the Town Hall and in other public bodies. We are hoping to recruit volunteer chaplains who have a passion for people and for the town. They need to be in good standing with their local church and be able to offer a couple of hours once a week or once a fortnight.
A training course “Chaplaincy Everywhere” will be held in the spring at Longcauseway Church. This course is prepared by the Methodist Church and is highly recommended. More details will be available nearer the time.
