Christian Aid Mini Market
The 2013 Churches together in Dewsbury Mini Market took place on Saturday 18th May. On the previous Thursday sales Items were sorted into piles for the various stalls. The market was timed from 9:45am to 3:30pm during which time it never ceased to rain. This was extremely unfortunate as fine weather allows stalls to be placed on the church forecourt and encourages passing trade.
Sixty helpers were involved in running the market. Morning Coffee/Tea and Biscuits were provided by Sally Speight’s Team. The catering team under Gill Beckett’s oversight were busy from early morning preparing sandwiches, soup, quiche etc for lunchtime onwards.
Stalls were prepared ready for sale indoors, with books outside under polythene sheeting in front of church. Bric a Brac and the tombola were sited under the overhang of the first church’s shop Hot drinks were served throughout the day to those manning the stalls.
The large number of helpers made it possible for the volunteers to take a rest break and food as required. Cleaning away was carried out as efficiently as setting up. All three space ministers helped and supported at the mini market.
£1100 was raised on the day. To be a part of a team of dedicated workers raising money for Christian Aid was a very satisfying experience. My thanks go to everyone who made the day so worthwhile. Particularly encouraging was the age range of helpers from the children to retired members. With so many demands on our time nowadays thank you for using your Saturday to help those less fortunate than ourselves carrying out Christ’s work in Dewsbury
