Hi! and welcome once again to the Rams Chaplaincy Newsletter. Due to unforeseen circumstances I have combined both April and May’s newsletter in an effort to try to get back up to date.

As I write it is shortly after hearing the tragic news of Danny Jones (Keighley Cougars) – I am sure I echo all of Dewsbury Rams management, officials and supporters in giving our heartfelt condolences and offering our thoughts and prayers to his wife and family, the players, friends and all those connected with the Cougars and the wider Rugby League family.

As a Chaplain I know how important prayer is, not only in one’s own individual life but also for others. Players really do appreciate your prayers and I urge you to seriously consider (either as a church/group or individual) becoming a prayer sponsor and taking time out each day for a few minutes to pray for one or two of the players. The First Team squad together with photographs can be viewed on the Rams website. Please pray for the lads in the 2nd team also.

Please do try to get behind and encourage our younger players – those who at the moment are playing in our 2nd team, battling and training hard in learning the skills of the game and hoping to make the grade into 1st team rugby. Also, spare time to think and encourage those members of 1st team squad who, as yet, haven’t played or been

selected; it can be very frustrating and depressing training week in week out and not getting picked. Equally for Glen as he selects the team knowing full-well he will disappoint some.

The role of Chaplaincy does not just apply to players and managers alone, but to all those connected with the Rams in any way whatsoever. It would be my privilege to help you in whatever way I can, whenever and wherever. Whether your problem may be sickness, bereavement, financial or on happier notes, giving thanks for child’s birth, celebrating weddings etc. in fact anything that a good friend may be involved with. PLEASE LET ME KNOW – I can’t help if I don’t know, either contact me on numbers above or via Rams office.

Sports Chaplaincy UK now has over 300 chaplains in an ever increasing array of sports including Motor Sports, Football, Cricket, Athletics, Triathlon, Horse Racing, Disabled Sports, Rugby Union and Rugby League. Rugby League has chaplains in every Super-League Club, most Championship One and some Championship 2 clubs and is seeking to expand further into all championship and amateur clubs too. I would welcome the opportunity of visiting your church, club or organization and tell you more about the work of Sports Chaplaincy.

Unfortunately Pastor Mick Jessop has decided to step down as Co-Chaplain due to various commitments at his church fellowship – Shaw Cross Mount Tabor Community Church – but still will be on hand to offer encouragement, prayer, counsel and advice. On behalf of the Club and personally a very big THANK YOU to Mick for all his support.

Please remember Roger the Ram is willing to visit Children’s clubs within the district and to attend community events, fund-raising functions etc. Please contact the Rams office if you would like to book him.

I’ve already highlighted the need for prayer as I firmly believe and know from personal experience that God both hears and answers prayers and would ask for your continued prayers for those listed below: -

Prayer is about saying THANK YOU to God as well as asking Him for things  so firstly let’s be thankful: -

Greg Scott now back in full training, regaining match playing fitness with the 2nds.

Ryan Fieldhouse – just a few weeks away from match fitness, watch out for him probably making his debut for Rams in the 2nds.

Steve Nash – another almost back to fitness – likely to appear in 2nds very soon to regain full match fitness.

Zak Johnson sustained a very nasty leg injury during the game with London Bronco’s and is likely to be out of action for several months. Zak has now had his operation and we pray for a complete recovery. Zak would really appreciate your prayers. Although a long way to go before Zak fully recovers he is making very good progress.

Sam Wood (knee injury) Sam is awaiting surgery and would really appreciate your prayers.

Brett Seymour as he seeks to settle in here at the Rams.

If I can help you in any way, please don’t hesitate in contacting me either on the of above or via the Rams office, Tetley Stadium, Owl Lane, Dewsbury, West Yorkshire WF12 7RH email: info@ , Telephone: 01924 465489

I am extremely grateful of your prayers, encouragement and support.
