Visit of Carlton Road School Year 1 class to Longcauseway Church

On Monday morning 10th June 2013 year 1 from Carlton Road School visited our church as part of that study programme. Their teacher Clair, a friend of Steven and Maggie Gooder, had arranged the visit. I met the class and spent almost three quarters of an hour introducing them to the church

Words special to Church were explained: pew, pulpit, communion table, lectern, organ, Bible,, God , Jesus. The way in which baptisms, weddings and funerals are conducted was also explained.

Opportunity was offered to ask questions which were numerous.  These included why are the choir pews placed in a different way from the rest?.  What happens when the children leave Pilots? Why are there so many stained glass windows in Church?

It is hoped to display work produced by the children in Church about their visit. I found the visit stimulating; thought provoking and very worthwhile, The Space leadership team is in the process of encouraging member churches to seek opportunities of developing links with local schools. So we are at the forefront of this initiative. It is helped to create a list of volunteers willing to talk to children who visit local churches
