Ladies' Fellowship April 2015
This month our meeting took the form of a visit instead of our usual gathering at church.
Earlier this year we presented a cheque to Margaret Watson for her Women's Health Group and on receiving it Margaret invited us to see where the group is based and experience for ourselves the facilities provided. So this month we visited the premises on Wellington Street, Dewsbury.
We were very warmly welcomed by Margaret and some of the helpers there. We were split into two groups to be shown the conversion of what was, many years ago, an old stable block and which later became the photography department for the Dewsbury Reporter. It has been transformed into warm and welcoming premises for women who desperately need help. There are two "snug" rooms for privacy, a kitchen, toilet and shower room, and a main area with tables and chairs with a screen for each and a very comfortable settee. The decor with plants and subdued lighting gives a very restful feel instead of a frightening, clinical atmosphere. We were all impressed.
Margaret and her helpers had provided afternoon tea- open sandwiches and home-made cakes. As we ate Margaret told us of the future plans for the centre and the necessary change in the provision for those who need its services.
The twelve ladies who came (plus Judith whom we were delighted to have with us) spent a pleasant couple of hours and were happy knowing that our fundraising efforts were appreciated.
