Nomads’ House Group
13th November 2012
The house group met at Olga and Alan’s home for bible study. Carol Marsh led the meeting on a passage from St Mark’s Gospel chapter 8, verses 27-30 entitled ‘Peter’s Confession of Christ’. In this passage Jesus asks his disciples, “Who do people say I am?”
Their reply was, “Some say John the Baptist, others say Elijah and still others, one of the prophets”.
“But what about you?” Jesus asks, “Who do you say I am?”
Whereupon Peter answers, “You are the Christ?”
Then followed a discussion about the House group members understanding and description of who Jesus is.
Each member explained his or her description and a broad spectrum of definitions evolved. Carol next referred to an American Pastor’s descriptions of the Christ, each one emphasising a different type of Christ, for example, the left wing Christ, the brotherly Christ. During our tea break we were asked to offer 3 statements about ourselves, one of which was untrue. It proved very difficult to identify the untruth.
Here is an example:
I have appeared on television.
I have parachute jumped from a plane.
I have abseiled down a pot hole
We reflected that even though we think we know each other well we don’t know everything about each other. Thus with Jesus we continue to learn more and more about Christ as we continue our journey of life and ,more is revealed to us.
The meeting was well presented by Carol providing stimulating and thought provoking as well as relaxing and enjoyable.
It felt good to get together discussing our Christian faith and we left with an eager expectancy for our next Bible study in January.
