At this month’s meeting, hosted by Marjorie Clark, we were privileged to have as our guest speaker Rev. Janet Lees. Janet is the full-time chaplain at Silcoates School in Wakefield. We had a preview of Janet when she led worship at Longcauseway only a few weeks ago so we were all eagerly looking forward to her visit, we were not disappointed. To describe Janet as a character is the understatement of the year, we were all totally absorbed as she related how she came into the ministry having been born in a URC family. Her visits in the south, where she was born, to a nunnery, then to spending time at retreat on Holy Island and finally to her chaplaincy at Silcoates with hundreds of children from four to eighteen, where she is known as ‘Rev’. The time spent in her company was far too short but after Steve Gooder proposed the vote of thanks to her she revealed that, along with Carol Marsh and the school choir, they will be helping Rev Mark Robinson to lead our worship on Sunday, 12th May. I sincerely hope you will all be able to join us.
