SPACE Voyagers visit Marrick Priory
Richmondshire, North Yorkshire
On September 22nd 22 young people met at Marrick Priory in North Yorkshire for a weekend of outdoor activities, bible study and total retreat from mobile phones!
Four of our SPACE Voyagers went along Amelia, Kieran, Emily and Georgia. They were taken by Janine and Mike in a minibus on the Friday evening and had a thoroughly enjoyable time making lots of new friends from United Reformed churches in Halifax, Shiregreen, Leeds, Rotherham, Sheffield and Hornsea.
Whilst they were there they had the chance to go canoing, wall climbing, zip wiring and archery. For many of them their favourite activity was the zip wire.
These are some of their comments:
“Experiences with new friends”, “Crazy”, “Sleepless”, “This weekend was amazing” “I think this weekend was amazing and fun!” “I think that the weekend was fun!!” “Fun and Tiring”, “Scary but Fun” “Different” “An insight”.
The only downside seemed to be a lack of sleep, no wifi and they would’ve liked more freetime!
We are fortunate now that we have two ‘children and youth workers’ within Synod, Stef who went to Marrick Priory though she’d only been in post from the beginning of September and Megan who I believe just missed it! We are also fortunate that Synod subsidised the trip and our very own SPACE also covered a shortfall making it accessible to all.
When Mike and I collected them on Sunday afternoon they were all happy though maybe a little tired! They had the opportunity to meet up with their new found friends at Youth Synod on Saturday 14th October, when six of our SPACE Voyagers went along, three hadn’t been to Marrick Priory but now they’ve seen lots of photos and met Stef and Megan hopefully will go next year!
