SPACE Way Forward update.

Following discussions in our Church Meetings about the Way Forward two main needs were identified. The first was that SPACE needs a Minister of Word and Sacrament to join the Ministerial Team and the second was to investigate the recruitment of a Lay Worker to help us in mission to our communities.

There is some good news in this regard. As has been announced previously the SPACE Leadership were hoping to appoint a person to work with us on our mission projects. The SPACE leadership Team and the Eldership/Leadership Teams have agreed to appoint a Non-Stipendiary Minister. Her name is Angela Lawson and she will join us on a part-time basis to work with us as we move forward. This appointment has come from Synod and is part of the strategy of “Many are Called” as the United Reformed Church faces the challenge of decreasing numbers of Ministers of Word and Sacrament.

Angela has been studying at Northern College and is about to finish her course on Contextual Theology. She lives in Huddersfield and is excited about coming to work with us. She will give 10 hours during the week and some Sundays, either joining us in worship, leading worship and appropriate pastoral work. Angela will need to be ordained and inducted into SPACE which will be organised as soon as possible.

Sally Speight

Secretary of the SPACE Leadership Team.
