The clocks have gone back, leaves have changed colour and you don’t go out without a coat. Autumn!
Do you see autumn as an end or a beginning? It certainly marks summer's end. Deck chairs and barbecues are a memory and shorts are confined to the sports field, but it marks the start of the build up to Christmas and the New Year.
At Church we start our Advent study this week and the planning of Christmas worship is gaining pace but like most folk we are also thinking of parties, presents and pantomimes.
Becoming a Christian also marks an end and a beginning. It is the end of trying to do everything in your own strength, knowing that for every triumph there will be a dozen disasters and the beginning of a relationship with God through Jesus.
The love of Jesus will not only encourage and sustain us in a world which can be tough but we know that, even if we fall short of what we should be, we are not cast out but are forgiven. All we have to do is say sorry and really mean it.
This autumn why not make a new beginning with Jesus.By Paul Goulden (Longcauseway Church) Representing Churches Together in Dewsbury. To contact CTiD please ring 01924 454750 or 457057.
