The Easter eggs have been eaten, the Easter bonnets consigned to the attic for next year; Easter is over for another year and life is back to normal. Or is it? The Christian calendar reminds us that lasts for fifty days through the Season of Easter, until Pentecost. Fifty days for celebrating the presence of the risen Jesus in our lives!
“I’m drawing a picture of God”, a little boy told his mother one day. “But no one knows what God is like”, she replied. He firmly told her: “Well, they will now!”
In the gospels there are many word pictures of Jesus- telling stories, healing, teaching, challenging the status quo, debating with the authorities, praying, laughing, eating. All of them help us to build up a picture of what God is like. Most powerfully we see the extent of God’s love for us as Jesus suffered and died on the cross. And through the triumph of the resurrection we know that Jesus is with us always. We have fifty days to ponder that mystery and find Jesus alive in our lives and our world today. May you be richly blessed this Easter tide.
