Reflection for the Week

12th March 2017

Do you Want to Fast this Lent?
I’ve given up chocolate for Lent, but I’m inclined to think that this is better advice... because forty days of giving something up (or taking something on) is habit forming... so, in the words of Pope Francis

Fast from hurting words and say kind words
Fast from sadness and be filled with gratitude
Fast from anger and be filled with patience
Fast from pessimism and be filled with hope
Fast from worries and have trust in God
Fast from complaints and contemplate simplicity
Fast from pressures and be prayerful
Fast from bitterness and fill your heats with joy
Fast from selfishness and be compassionate to others
Fast from grudges and be reconciled
Fast from words and be silent so you can listen...

And here is good advice
Practice the Pause
Pause before judging
Pause before assuming
Pause before accusing
Pause whenever you’re about to react harshly
and you’ll avoid doing and saying things you’ll later regret
